On March 19, 2026, in Islamabad, a major shift happened as Jazz 4G officially becomes into Jazz 5G during a ceremony hosted by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Jazz CEO Aamir Ibrahim officially received the 5G license from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).
The agreement was signed by Brig. (Retd.) Aamir Shahzad in a ceremony attended by the PM, Federal Minister for IT & Telecom Shaza Fatima Khawaja, Chairman PTA Maj. Gen. (Retd.) Hafeez Ur Rehman, and several other leaders from both the public and private sectors. During the event, Jazz was formally awarded the license for Next Generation Mobile Services (NGMS).

Jazz 5G covers Pakistan 180 cities Intially.

In the first phase, Jazz responded immediately by launching 5G services in approximately 180 cities, including key metropolitan hubs like Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore, Quetta, Peshawar, Rawalpindi, and Faisalabad. The company plans to deploy 5G across 1,000 sites and continue upgrades throughout Pakistan this year. Jazz also confirmed that it is continuing to expand and upgrade its nationwide 4G network alongside the 5G rollout.

Why Jazz 5G is More Than Just a Name Change?

During the auction, Jazz did something different. It became the only company in Pakistan to secure all four major frequency “lanes”: 700 MHz, 2300 MHz, 2600 MHz, and 3500 MHz.
But what do these lanes actually mean for your phone? Think of these frequencies like different types of roads:

  • 700 MHz: This is the most important for daily life in Pakistan. These signals can travel long distances and pass through thick walls. This means you’ll get signals even deep inside your house or in a basement.
  • 2300 and 2600 MHz: These signals help the network stay smooth and fast, even when thousands of people are using it at the same time in a crowded market or mall.
  • 3500 MHz: With these signals, you can download full HD movies in seconds without any lag. This is the global standard for 5G, and its download speed reached a record 1.4 Gbps in recent tests.

A $1 Billion Promise to Pakistan’s Digital Future

Jazz isn’t just launching 5G; they are putting their money where their mouth is. To make this high-speed dream a reality, Jazz has committed a massive new investment of $1 billion to upgrade Pakistan’s digital backbone.
If we look at the big picture, Jazz has invested a total of $11 billion in the country over the last 30 years. This latest investment is being used to build new Jazz 5G towers and ensure a strong connection everywhere. Since “no signal” is a major problem for many, this funding will help connect Pakistan more reliably than ever.
By spending more than any other network, Jazz is making sure that when you hit “Connect,” the network actually delivers. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed his hope that this 5G rollout will eventually cover all four corners of Pakistan, reaching every city and rural area alike

Yes, the launch has already happened! The government completed the spectrum auction in March 2026, and commercial 5G services are now rolling out in a phased approach starting with big cities like Islamabad, Karachi, and Lahore.

To use 5G, you don’t necessarily need to “enable” the SIM itself. Instead, you need to go to your phone’s Settings > Mobile Networks > Network Mode and select “5G/4G/3G (Auto Connect).” If you are in a coverage area with a 5G phone, it will connect automatically.

You need three things:
1. A 5G-compatible smartphone that supports Pakistan’s 5G bands.
2. To be in a 5G coverage area.
3. A software update from your phone manufacturer to “unlock” the 5G setting on your device.

In most cases, no. If you already have a high-quality 4G SIM, it will likely work with the 5G network. However, for the best experience and security, Jazz recommends ensuring your SIM is updated to the latest version. You can check your SIM status via the Jazz World app.

Currently, Jazz 5G allows you to use your existing 4G data packages on the 5G network at no extra cost. While specialized “5G-only” high-volume plans are expected soon, your current weekly or monthly packages will work perfectly for now.

The official launch date for Jazz 5G in Pakistan was March 19, 2026.
